PORGY & BESS

Stewy von Wattenwyl Sextet

When pianist Stewy von Wattenwyl was asked by the Thurgau concert organizer Stefan Züst whether he would like to arrange the jazz opera Porgy and Bess for a small formation and perform and record it exclusively in January 2018, he enthusiastically agreed. The professional recording of the premiere turned out to be a stroke of luck:

The result is an all-round inspiring live recording, which allows George Gershwin's wonderful music to flourish in a remarkably contemporary guise more than 80 years after its creation.

The ingenious arrangements by Wattenwyl's, which, in addition to the usual instruments in jazz, also make it possible to experience a melodica or an Indian shruti box, contribute to this, as do the great class of the performing musicians and Nicole Herzog's moving voice.

There's a boat that's leavin soon for New York - Stewy von Wattenwyl
