Stewy von Wattenwyl (b. 1962) is a Swiss jazz pianist who has established a firm reputation in Europe with his clear touch, lyricism and a deep understanding of the American hard bop tradition. He has worked with many of the worlds greatest jazz musicians such as Art Farmer, Clark Terry, Johnny Griffin, Alvin Queen, Bob Mintzer and Ryan Kisor to name a few.

On his latest CD After The Rain, Stewy continues his collaboration with American tenor saxophonist Eric Alexander, following their 2008 live album Live At Marians which became a big hit in Japan and elsewhere.

Alexander is featured on five tracks, recorded live during a tour of Switzerland. The rest of the program consists of studio recordings featuring Stewy in a trio, duo or solo setting. There is an interesting contrast between the hot and swinging quartet numbers recorded live on one hand, and the more contemplative, lyrical, piano-centric studio recordings. Recommended!
